chartering a new vision - raising children to new heights in learning
Ensuring Educational Stability for Every Student
At New Vision Learning Academy, we believe that every student deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their living situation. Through our partnership with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, we are dedicated to providing students experiencing homelessness with the support they need to succeed in school.
Do You Qualify?
If your family lives in any of the following situations, your child may qualify for rights and protections under the McKinney-Vento Act:
-
Living in a shelter
-
Staying in a motel or campground due to lack of adequate housing
-
Living in a car, park, abandoned building, or bus/train station
-
Doubled up with other people due to loss of housing or financial hardship
Your Rights Under the McKinney-Vento Act
As a McKinney-Vento eligible student, your child has the right to:
-
Receive a free, appropriate public education.
-
Enroll in school immediately, even if lacking normally required documents (such as proof of residency or immunization records).
-
Attend classes while the school gathers necessary documents.
-
Choose to enroll in the local school or remain in the school of origin (the school attended when permanently housed or the last school attended).
-
If there’s a disagreement with the school choice, the district must provide a written explanation of its position and inform you of your right to appeal.
-
-
Receive transportation to and from the school of origin, if requested.
-
Access educational services comparable to those provided to other students.
Our Services for McKinney-Vento Students
At New Vision Learning Academy, we go beyond providing basic services. We are committed to offering a comprehensive support system for students facing homelessness:
1. Immediate Enrollment and Transportation
We ensure that students are enrolled quickly and receive transportation assistance, so their education continues without interruption.
2. Free Meals
McKinney-Vento students automatically qualify for free breakfast and lunch programs, ensuring they have access to nutritious meals while at school.
3. Counseling and Emotional Support
We provide emotional and mental health support through counseling, and we connect students and families to critical community services like housing, healthcare, and job placement resources.
4. Parental Support
We empower parents with information on their children’s educational rights and help them access community resources for additional support.
